Continuing the previous trend of awarding the Early Bird badge to Moodle plugins who are marked compatible to the latest Moodle version before the initial release day, Moodle HQ has announced the same for Moodle 3.3 The early bird badge for Moodle plugins was first started since Moodle 3.0.

This time the Early Bird award is available for the upcoming version of Moodle which is now scheduled to be released on May 15th instead of 8th may. So, its still not late to test and update your plugins for Moodle 3.3 compatibility.

What you have to do for it:

As a plugin developer all you need to do is to:

  • Test your plugins intensively against Moodle 3.3 beta (Behat and PHPUnit tests help a lot).
  • Fix all eventually raised warnings, notices, regressions and problems.
  • Release a new compatible version in the plugins directory, or mark the existing one as compatible.

The award has seen an increasing number of plugins that have got it since the start. For Moodle 3.2 the award has been given to a total of 129 plugins.

Also note that Moodle HQ team may revoke the award from a plugin if there is a suspicion that it was not tested well. So, make sure to test your plugins thoroughly before submitting.

The early bird award is a good initiative to motivate the community plugin developers to keep their plugin up-to-date with the latest release of Moodle. On the other hand side, it helps the site administrators to easily upgrade their Moodle site to new version without waiting for plugins update.
