While shiny features like “Boost”, Competencies, LTI, or the dashing new media player took up our headlines, a lot of effort by true heroes who developed Moodle 3.2 has gone into smaller upgrades. They are improvements to the most popular Moodle activities and may only be noticed through real practice and sadly, chances are not everyone will get to them.

A post on the official moodle.com blog highlights them, with illustrative video for each activity.

Pretty little feature: due date override in Assignments

Teachers can extend the deadlines for submissions, on an individual, group or class whole basis. Before, Moodle would automatically penalize late submissions even though there was a justified cause.

Pretty little feature: selection on behalf of students in Choices

Teacher can make decisions for students in the Choice Activity. It comes as a request from teachers who use the Choice to assign groups or special homework. Before, non-respondents would not get anything assigned to them. Now, teachers can make the selection, either for each individual or in bulk.

Pretty little feature: portfolio export in Workshop

The Workshop is a Moodle gem, as it is one of the best ways to engage students through sequential phases that could encompass the full course length. So what better way to recognize and give accountability to long term efforts than with a visible portolio! The Moodle site where the final outcome of the Workshop needs the Portfolio Activity enabled, which is only a matter of an admin changing the default in the settings.

Pretty little feature: discussion locking in Forum

It allows teachers to keep old conversations visible and preventing students to add to them after its time has passed. Before, teachers had to choose between keeping them live or shutting them down. Now students will enjoy the best of both worlds.
