Moodle Mobile 3.1 was released at the same time as the core Moodle 3.1 software. The new version contains three new features that many will find useful – the ability to take quizzes offline, the ability to take quizzes on a mobile device and the ability to view lesson plans.Click here to learn more about the new Moodle Mobile features in 3.1.
That’s right, mobile users can now download a quiz to their mobile device and attempt the quiz when offline. Students will know a quiz is able to be taken offline by the presense of a cloud icon / download option. There are three criteria a quiz must pass in order to be downloadable. First, it cannot have a time limit. Second, it can only contain questions with deferred feedback. Third, the quiz does not require a network address for identification or other purposes. As noted on the Moodle Doc for offline quizzes, only questions are taken offline, and not the valid responses. Click here to learn more about how to create and configure offline quizes.
You can now take quizzes on your mobile device. Essentially, any quiz that uses standard question types and behaviors can now be taken on a phone or tablet. The one standard question that does not work are essay questions that require the uploading of a file by the student. If you’re interested in using other plugins with the Quiz, the only way they will work is if the plugin includes support for the mobile remote add-ons. And finally, if your Quiz requires a “safe” browser, it won’t work in Moodle mobile. Click here to learn more about taking quizzes on your mobile device.
Also new to the 3.1 Mobile experience is the ability to view learning plans. This view includes being able to view progress within the plan.
