Moodle 2.9 now in code freeze

Following the outlined schedule of milestones for major releases, Moodle 2.9 is now in code freeze stage which means its ready to now move towards QA and testing with the community. Check out the dates here: or on the Development Calendar.

Expect QA testing to begin next Monday April 13th.

Moodle 2.9

After Moodle 2.0 we switched to time-based releases rather than feature-based releases (see our development process). Because of this, the details below are an indication of current priorities only, and are subject to change according to how long things actually take to finish. Anything not ready by the following dates will generally be pushed to the next major release.


  • 2.9 Major new features are demoable: 23rd March 2015
  • 2.9 Code freeze (no new features accepted): 6th April 2015
  • 2.9 QA begins (start of QA testing): 13th April 2015
  • 2.9 Release date (assuming all tests pass): 11th May 2015
